Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between you and the developer of Picyin ("we", "us") for using the Picyin app. They add to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which also applies. By using Picyin you accept both. If you don't, please don't use the app.
Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Picyin on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store's rules allow. You may not copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law lets you regardless of this restriction.
Your photos
The photos you take or add, and everything you make from them, are yours, and they stay on your iPhone (see the Privacy Policy). Only photograph what you are allowed to, and respect the people and places in your photos.
Readings and translations can be wrong
Picyin reads text from photos and translates it automatically. It only keeps what it can read with confidence, but text recognition, readings and machine translation can still be wrong or incomplete. Picyin is a learning aid. Don't rely on it for safety, medical, allergy, legal or financial information — for example to judge what is in a dish, or to follow a warning sign. Ask someone who reads Chinese when it matters.
Picyin Premium
The free version keeps up to 20 photos at a time. Picyin Premium is a one-time, non-consumable purchase that removes that limit and unlocks every tile color, on all devices signed in to the Apple Account that bought it. There is no subscription. Purchases are made through the App Store under Apple's terms; refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Restore a purchase on a new device from Settings in the app.
Dictionary and credits
Readings and word meanings come from CC-CEDICT by MDBG and its contributors, used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Reviews are scheduled with FSRS from the Open Spaced Repetition project.
Changes to the app
We may change, improve or stop features of Picyin. Because your data is stored only on your device, keep a backup of your iPhone if your library matters to you.
No warranty
Picyin is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about it beyond those in Apple's licence agreement, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded, including the Australian Consumer Law.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Using Picyin after a change means you accept the new terms.
